INTERN, DIGITAL ARCHIVESPosition Overview:The Intern, Digital Archives aids the Exhibits and Programs department in special initiatives and regular, ongoing departmental duties. Each intern completes a comprehensive project as well as assisting department staff with duties as assigned. Interns will assist The Mob Museum in the development of a new Digital Asset Management System (DAMS) and the creation of two online exhibits focused on Las Vegas history. This is a temporary position reporting to the Director of Education.Major Tasks and Responsibilities:- In collaboration with Exhibits and Programs department staff, analyze and research images and documents from The Mob Museum’s collection to assist in the selection of the best candidates for inclusion in the digital asset management system and web portal.
- Using industry-standard protocols, scan, process, and digitize hundreds of photos, images and documents from The Mob Museum’s collection for inclusion in an online database, accessible and searchable to the public.
- Using standardized methods, develop metadata for newly scanned and preexisting digital assets.
- Research materials in The Mob Museum’s collection as well as other local repositories and secondary sources to interpret assets in the collection.
- In collaboration with Exhibits and Programs department staff, work on the selection of assets and historical interpretation of collection objects to create two cohesive, engaging, and historically accurate online exhibits.
- Contribute to the exhibit design and script for two online exhibits focused on materials in the digital asset management system.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Current undergraduate UNLV History major with a minimum of 90 semester credits or graduate level UNLV History student in good standing.
- Experience in archives, exhibit development, collection management or digital archives, including but not limited to university coursework, internship or volunteer experience strongly preferred.
- Strong written communication skills are a must.
- Demonstrable understanding in proper handling of historical objects, documents, and images.
- Software competency in Microsoft programs including but not limited to Word and Excel.
- Software and hardware competency in digital scanning and photography equipment and skills.
- Prior knowledge and understanding of Las Vegas history, organized crime and law enforcement history preferred.
- Experience with collections management or digital asset management software, digital archives, and the creation of metadata is a plus.
- Proven ability to engage individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and community organizations.
- Flexible, organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
- Able to constantly operate a computer or other office productivity machinery.

Compensation and Dates of Engagement:- The position is paid at $15.00/hr.
- The position is considered temporary, with an expected start date of March 24, 2025, and expected end date in May 2025.
- The position is expected to work approximately 10 hours per week.
