SECURITY/HOST – THE MOB MUSEUM
Position Overview:
Staff members in the Security/Host position play a critical role in the Museum’s delivery of a world-class guest experience by presenting a thematically appropriate security presence. Security/Hosts engage and interact with Museum guests to elevate the overall experience and accentuate the history of Prohibition. Security/Hosts ensure that guest enjoyment of the Underground exhibition is not compromised through unsafe conditions, unruly guests, or other hazards. Security/Hosts report to the Museum’s Director of Security and Business Integration.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Engages and interacts with speakeasy guests in accordance with venue guidelines and procedures, including checking of IDs, dealing with inebriated guests, controlling access to Speakeasy, coordinating departures, etc.
- Protects Museum and its guest from hazards occurring in and around the Speakeasy and Distillery exhibit spaces.
- Establishes a visible security presence to dissuade any potentially destructive or inappropriate behavior.
- Investigates and writes reports on accidents, incidents, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards and other security related situations.
- Provides any needed assistance to guests, employees and visitors in accordance with established security procedures.
- Serves in concert with Museum’s contract security personnel to identify and remediate security concerns and coordinating response to all security and first aid situations, including guest ejections as necessary.
- Play a key role in emergency situations such as administration of first aid, facility evacuations, and the like.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience providing security in a public venue, preferably in a setting where alcohol is served.
- Ability to communicate in a friendly and courteous manner.
- Ability to rely on communication skills rather than physical force, to interact with aggressive, intoxicated, or obnoxious guests.
- Demonstrated judgement and decision making in crisis situations.
- Ability to observe both internal and external Museum conditions, and exercise the judgment to head-off situations before they escalate.
- Physical capability to ensure the safety of guests by removing problem guests, breaking-up physical altercations, lead building evacuations, and the like.
- Physical capability to stand for prolonged periods, traverse quickly through Museum spaces, climb steps, work in various environmental conditions (including outside), etc.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- A demonstrated personable and presentable demeanor which commands respect and attention.
- Passion for creating a world-class museum that is unrivaled in content and recognized for a truly outstanding guest experience.
- Enthusiasm for working in an organization where change is frequent, structure is evolving, and flexibility, teamwork, and good humor are absolute necessities.
Shifts Needed:
- Weekend Nights/4:30 to Midnight
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
