Graphic Designer

Position Overview:
The graphic designer is responsible for the development of engaging and diverse designs for a variety of media including print, digital, interactive and email communications. The ideal candidate is creative, solution-oriented, a self-starter and a team player that closely collaborates with internal departments to develop, execute and launch projects that support the Museum’s brand voice and marketing strategies. This role demands excellent attention to detail, a strong sense of urgency and the ability to work independently with sound judgment. Reporting to the Director of Design, the Graphic Designer plays a pivotal role in supporting the Museum’s efforts to advance the public understanding of organized crime’s history and impact on American society.

 Major Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Design high-impact promotional and advertising campaigns, email marketing materials, social media, web and e-commerce assets, event collateral, property signage and other items as needed.
  • Support digital marketing efforts by creating ads, memes, infographics, and other shareable visual content; measure results; implement market-driven solutions to boost results.
  • Translate briefs and marketing plans into articulated creative concepts using mood boards, interactive prototypes and comps.
  • Present creative concepts, strategy, and rationale to all levels of the organization in a meeting or group setting.
  • Responsible for the quality, accuracy, and timely delivery of creative materials.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to produce sales kits, private event signs, educational program materials, presentations and special projects to name a few.
  • Handle in-house print production from template preparation to physical collateral production
  • Actively ensure brand standard consistency and continuity with all company logos, images and visuals; ensure compliance with all internal policies and federal/state/local regulations regarding marketing materials.
  • Prepare assets as needed for digital, web, social platforms, print, packaging and video.
  • Edit and retouch photos to ensure high-quality imagery for digital and print materials. Assist with collateral updates and version control.
  • Utilize project management systems and processes to maintain efficient and organized delivery of creative assets.
  • Share responsibility in maintaining internal databases of designs, photography, video and digital ad platforms with the Technology department.
  • Manage multiple projects and adhere to established schedules, ensuring quality standards are met; adhere to production requirements while working with outside vendors; organize and maintain library of key art, logos and content updates.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in design in an agency, in-house or freelance.
  • Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
  • Exceptional creativity and innovative design skills.
  • Excellent computer knowledge for both Windows and Mac environments.
  • Proficient in standard design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD and Lightroom Classic).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and the Internet.
  • An understanding of UI/UX (user interface/user experience) design, digital production for web and print.
  • Demonstrated typographic, color, and layout abilities, production knowledge, and an understanding of digital production for print.
  • A keen eye for photography or creative visual tactics.
  • Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, WordPress, HTML, CSS and 3D software is a plus.
  • Product photography and e-commerce experience are a plus.
  • Video production such as editing and animation is a strong advantage.
  • Strong working knowledge of designing for multiple screen resolutions and sizes.
  • Advanced knowledge of production requirements across all media.
  • Approach new projects creatively. Have a good eye for high-end design and style.
  • Demonstrate passion for web technologies and graphic design.
  • Must remain current on design production software.
  • Ability to learn quickly with the capability to multitask and handle multiple files, jobs and projects at once.
  • Able to work well under pressure, independently and complete assigned tasks within identified time frames.
  • Proactive, eager to solve problems and a commitment to accepting responsibility.
  • Team player; excellent communication skills, ability to interact with personalities from different departments.
  • Organized, dependable and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
